Term 4

Wriggle and Crawl

Term 4 Overview

Grab your coat and pooter – we’re going out and about on a minibeast hunt. Sweep your nets in ponds and lift up logs to see who’s home. Then set up a minibeast laboratory and observe their every move. Add notes and labels and ask research questions, just like a real entomologist. Learn about bees and worms and butterflies too. Can you make a food chain to show who eats who? On your belly, legs at the ready, it’s time to wriggle and crawl.

Our knowledge organisers summarise the learning that will take place each half term or topic.  They include the key knowledge and vocabulary that we want our pupils to learn. Please share these with your child and help them to get familiar with them.

Maths

This term we will be continuing our learning of Multiplication and Division and starting to learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables! We will then move onto measurement, looking at how to measure height and length in cm and m. We will also be learning to measure mass in g and kg, as well as capacity in ml and l and temperature.

English

This term we will be reading 'The Secret of Black Rock' by Joe Todd-Stanton. In this exciting story, a brave young girl finds out the truth about a mysterious monster out at sea. The children will be using this as their own inspiration to write a defeat the monster story and to develop their understanding of writing a strong character with similes and a range of description.
